Director: Francois Ozon
Starring: Marine Vacth, Geraldine Pailhas
Young & Beautiful is a sublimely produced and provocative coming of age film from France in which its beauty and grace will stun and mesmerise audiences.
Isabelle (Marine Vacth) is a 17 year old Parisian student whose sexual awakening triggers off desires for a quietly exciting double life as a high class prostitute. Whilst hiding this dark secret from her family, Isabelle secures a large clientele and quickly develops feelings towards Georges, (Johan Leysen) a man old enough to be her grandfather.
When tragedy strikes and Georges dies of a heart attack during their lovemaking, her secret life is revealed. The story then slides into a powerful and moving narrative as her parents attempt to sway her from this forbidden profession which she is clearly addicted to.
Exquisitely filmed, Young & Beautiful unfolds over the course of 12 months and is cleverly divided into four seasonal chapters. Boasting high production values and stunning photography this film restores memories of Bilitis, the 1973 French classic which eloquently explored youthful sensuality and eroticism.
Marine Vacth is perfectly cast as the 'young & beautiful' teenager, whose loss of innocence and questionable addiction leads to a loss of reputation and into the world of unrespectability and the illusion of a 'glamorous' existence.. JAKE
