Starring: Clive Owen, Juliette Binoche

Jack Marcus (Clive Owen) is an alcoholic, a divorcee and is estranged from his teenage son. He's an English teacher at a prep school, has an obsession with the English language and throws word games at whoever he encounters. He's also a writer whose career has stalled, owing to his battle with writer's block.

Enter Dina Delsanto (Juliette Binoche) the new art teacher, once an acclaimed artist, whose career has also stalled owing to her battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She is icy cold and has a passion for art. An attraction ignites, Jack subtly drawing her into his world of word games and Dina responding with playful arrogance.

When Jack discovers Dina has told her students that words are traps & lies he retaliates and declares war, a duel in the form of a school wide competition of words vs. pictures, in which all students & teachers must choose sides. Will this threaten their romance? Ultimately, are words more important than pictures?

Directed by Fred Schepisi, Words And Pictures is the surprise romantic drama of the year. The intelligent dialogue-heavy script is complemented by two leading characters, whose vast difference in personality and temperament delightfully resonate that opposites indeed do attract.

Owen and Binoche are likable and brilliantly cast as the teachers at war. Audiences will instantly feel their connection and hope romance will prosper through all their ongoing dramas. Teachers and students alike should relate to this film, which is also perfect viewing for movie goers who enjoy witty, well written and thought-provoking films.
