Director: Erik Bloomquist
Starring: Erik Bloomquist, Madeleine Dauer
At first I thought this short film was set in the 50s or 60s but then I slowly realize it's the present day and everybody is speaking like Sam Spade. What the hell is going on here? I actually enjoyed it.
Erik Bloomquist directs, stars and pulls of this Neo Film-Noir mystery set in a rich preppy school environment about a school newspaper. As strange as that sounds it actually works well in a quirky kind of way and had me wanting more.
The plot is about an ace newspaper reporter and part time gumshoe Allan Archer (Erik Bloomquist) who is tipped off by Lizzy Merriweather (Madeleine Dauer) about a teacher who may have been setup for dealing drugs. The game is then a foot.
The production quality and direction is very good and the film noir tribute has been done well. It felt a little rushed once you discover who dunnit; I wanted it to be fleshed out a bit more before my reward. Maybe because I was enjoying the journey so much. That's the problem with good short films, their too short.
Overall a pretty good independent film from some promising young people. A good sign of bigger things to come. ROB
