Ludicrous that this movie was marketed as being a prequel when it was actually a remake of the original! The posters advertised: “Let the untold story begin”... after watching this version it was quite obvious that there really weren’t many differences from the original. So many similarities in fact: the same spider bite; the pretty girlfriend; Spiderman living with his aunt & uncle; the uncle who gets slain by a thug; the scientist who turns into a monster owing to an experiment gone wrong & who terrorizes the city; Spiderman promising not to see the girl anymore owing to his superhero duties - definitely nothing new here! I can’t understand why the “upside down kiss” was omitted when the rest of the movie was the same? Studio heads realize that remakes are a hard sell so have deceived the movie going public in believing it was a prequel... just for a guaranteed hit.

Having said this, ultimately it was an excellent standalone film which was enjoyable & awesome to watch. Andrew Garfield was likeable as the new Spiderman & there was great chemistry between him & his girlfriend played by Emma Stone. Welcoming were Martin Sheen & Sally Field who played the roles of the uncle & aunt. SFX were incredible, especially in 3D which is what we have come to expect from these superhero flicks. It took a while for the action to set in, but it was continuous & riveting once it got started.

Marvel have another confirmed hit on their hands, where their previous effort The Avengers is in the top 3 money makers of all time. Spiderman has not only saved mankind from another villainous pest, but has also managed to keep Columbia Pictures from going bankrupt... JAKE 4.0
