Director: Rupert Wyatt
Starring: James Franco, Andy Serkis
Go Ape over this movie. It is Ape-tastic. Planet of the Apes movies are a great platform to show off how far we have come with CGI, and what better than for the boys at WETA to show off their latest efforts. Forget costumes, CGI is the way to go for the future of the P.O.T.A series. Add a decent story and a few nods to the originals and you have a top film for fans of old and new.
James Franco is trying to discover a cure for Alzheimers. Whilst experimenting on chimpanzees he discovers a serum that also increases brain activity. Caesar (Andy Serkis), his adopted chimp, becomes self aware and comes to the realization that most humans are assholes.
Aside from the spectacular visual images, this is a really good character movie, albeit their apes. Anticipating the light bulb in Caesar and his fellowship's brains becoming brighter and brighter, was a great part of the journey. I liked the subtle nod with the Statue of Liberty and the not so subtle nod to Charlton Heston. After all these years I now know how "We finally really did it"... ROBDIDO
