What do filmmakers do when their movie has made box office gold, they want to make a sequel but unfortunately they have killed off the hero? This is the problem producers faced with Red Dog, one of the biggest money making Australian movies of all time released in 2011.

A comedy drama, the story revolved around a dog in the outback who ultimately met his creator in doggy heaven in the final scenes of the film. But anything is possible when good writers are employed to write a script which is destined to become another holiday hit.

Initially set in 2011, Red Dog True Blue introduces a new family living in the city. A man takes his children to see Red Dog at the cinema and later tells his son that he assumed the film was based on the story of his own red dog which he owned as a child.

Told through flashbacks audiences return to the 60's at a cattle station in the outback and experience the second chapter in the franchise which has frustratingly been described as a prequel, but it is never substantiated whether the story was actually based on this man's dog.

Audiences will experience more Red Dog adventures, the dog's connection with the people living in the sun burnt outback and most significantly the love a boy had for his dog, an experience which affected his adult life.

Beautifully filmed with visually stunning shots of sunsets and the Australian outback, this film justifiably exploits the Australian landscape for overseas audiences.

The new characters are likable and the stories should resonate with movie-goers. Levi Miller (Pan) plays Mick the young boy who befriends the red dog and Bryan Brown plays Mick's grandfather, the only family member who agrees to take Mick on when tragedy strikes.

Wholesome family viewing this respectable continuing chapter in the franchise is funny, poignant, has a great soundtrack containing great Aussie songs, but most importantly has heart and soul.
