A challenge to adult moviegoers who claim they've never been confronted by anything they've seen on the big screen - watch Nymphomaniac Volumes I & II and try NOT to be shocked, disturbed and repelled by what you see, regardless how open minded you are.
On a cold night in a dark alley Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard) comes across Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) a lady who's been beaten senseless. He takes her to his apartment and she confesses she's a nymphomaniac. She recounts her story from childhood until the present, taking the audience on a 4 hour journey showcasing the life of a nymphomaniac.
The sexual perverseness and the bondage and discipline utilised by this woman to reach sexual gratification are displayed in detail, leaving nothing to the imagination. Audiences will witness the depersonalisation of a woman, as she loses her integrity, her husband and her son to an insatiable addiction to sex.
Close ups of genitalia and long detailed scenes of explicit sexual acts will have many wondering how Hollywood actors can perform in real sex acts just for the art.
This incredibly well made movie with brilliant performances and great production values will divide audiences, sparking a controversy - is this film art or pornography? Also, should this so-called 'art film' be screened in mainstream cinemas or seedy porn theatres? And finally should a film such as this be rated alongside other Hollywood films?... You be the judge.
