A treasure. This is the best description for Mars Needs Moms the new DVD release from Walt Disney and produced by Robert Zemeckis, who also brought us the equally enchanting The Polar Express some years ago.

This animated movie tells the story of a young boy named Milo who doesn’t appreciate his mom and tells her that he doesn’t need her. He later sees her get taken aboard a spaceship where the Martians plan to transport her back to Mars to look after baby Martian hatchlings. Milo manages to get on board and so starts a crazy adventure where he tries to save his mother. Milo realizes that he loves his mother dearly and can’t live without her.

This movie cost $150 million to produce and unfortunately only recouped $30 million at the box office owing to an influx of animated movies released simultaneously. The movie has warmth, sentiment, humour, excitement and a wonderful story which kids can relate to. The message conveyed is to love your parents as they won’t be around forever.
