This incredibly well crafted autobiographical drama chronicles the life of Nelson Mandela from his early childhood, to his involvement in a national movement which strived for equality and ultimately to his becoming the 1st democratically elected president of South Africa.

Mandela who was found guilty of attempting to overthrow the government and inciting a civil war was jailed for 27 years. His long years behind bars and the effect this had on his family are fully explored as is the battle of the black populous who demand his release.

Mandela was a powerful and courageous man 'sacrificing' his life for a better South Africa. A long Walk To Freedom is inspiring with an excellent script and a wonderful cast led by standout actor Idris Elba as Mandela.

The violence and bloodshed is realistic but overbearing, enhanced by the addition of real footage. Evidence of racism which stems from the top is sickening and incredulous.

Mandela proved that the power of a race of people and the desperation for a better life and personal sacrifice could bring change to a whole nation.
