Hundreds of rowdy kids quietened and became attentive as the lights dimmed at a special screening of Madagascar III in Sydney. Their interest never waned, eyes transfixed on the big screen for the whole duration as the animated magic unfolded, this time in 3D. The laughter from the audience, especially the adults, emphasized the popularity of this delightful animated franchise and its vast appeal to movie goers of all ages.
The gang try to get home from Africa to New York, after being away from their zoo in the previous 2 movies. Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo are on the wanted list for escaping the zoo, and a deliciously psychotic French policewoman is on their tracks. The gang decide to join a circus so they can travel home evading capture. Along the way they have new adventures, make new friends and there is also a surprise romance. They learn a lesson in life and wonder; is it a fallacy to say that there’s no place like home?
Hollywood heavyweights; Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jade Pinkett Smith once again lend their voices to recreate these funny and very likeable characters. The 3D animation is incredible with colours that are a feast for the eyes. Young children will be totally captivated as there are no slow moments throughout. The 93 mins running time is just right for the kids as they would otherwise start to lose concentration. These animated creatures are bringing in the big bucks at the box office, and if figures are anything to go by there should be quite a few more sequels to come. A great holiday treat for the whole family. JAKE
