Director: Babak Najafi
Starring: Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart
This sequel which hits cinema screens three years after the mildly successful Olympus Has Fallen was released, is little more than a rehash of the original, but should not disappoint fans who enjoy over-the-top action flicks.
Whilst in London securing a prime minister’s funeral, Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) uncovers an assassination plot against all attending world leaders. The onslaught commences and Banning must protect the American president (Aaron Eckhart) from the evil terrorists who plan to kidnap and assassinate him on social media.
A cheesy and very mediocre script containing improbable scenarios and dialogue completely downgraded this film. Many ridiculously-unrealistic lines propelled the audience into steam-rolling-laughter which robbed the movie of any credibility. An exemplary scene was where the secret service director (played by Angela Bassett) lies dying (whoops a spoiler!) after a helicopter crash, looks at Banning and utters her final (hilarious) words 'get those fuckers!'
The special effects are some of the most embarrassing not-so-special-effects produced in the history of motion pictures and only succeed in bringing the whole production down.
London emerges into a war zone - the body count accelerates and blood curdling scenes of people being blown up and casually shot should disturb the most sensitive of viewers. The actors do their best and Morgan Freeman seemed uneasy, realizing that this sequel, as its predecessor, was nothing more than a full on stinker. JAKE
