Director: Dani Menkin
Starring: Alon Aboutboul, Naruna Kaplan de Macedo
Showing at the 2015 Australian Jewish film festival is this feel good road movie from Israel set in the USA. Although it's Hebrew language with subtitles the film is mostly in English.
The main character is 60 year old Ronnie (Alon Aboutboul), a jewish guy who visits his brother in America and ends up on a quest to find his long lost love. Along the way he meets a quirky student movie director, brilliantly played by Naruna Kaplan de Macedo, who is filming a movie about life regrets. A perfect specimen for her film they team up on the quest to find Rachael.
This movie has lots of potential but a little rough around the edges. The story felt a little disjointed and random at times, and in some scenes the small gaps of silence felt awkward. But overall for an independent, it's an enjoyable film that gives you something to think about with some laughs along the way.
The scenes with the handycam interviews was cleverly interwoven into the overall plot and a good way to project the main concept behind the film. No regrets. ROB
