Director: Sacha Gervasi
Starring: Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren
Behind every great man there's a greater woman and you will be surprised to learn that Alfred Hitchcock's wife, Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) played such a pivotal role in his career and the success of his films. They both started out together and she was actually his boss. It was a different time back then and women where not taken seriously, so as Hitchcock's shadow grew bigger (literally) she was never truly acknowledged for her part in the films.
This is the mini biography of legendary director Alfred Hitchcock during the shooting of the classic horror film 'Psycho'. The film mainly concentrates on the relationship with his wife and how they both struggled to finance the film when nobody in Hollywood believed in them anymore.
Anthony Hopkins who you can barely recognize under the makeup is great and Helen Mirren too. There are dream sequences in the film that involve Ed Gein (the serial killer) that are actually like a mini horror film within the film. It was also a great avenue to show the intentness of Hitchcock's direction. There are some clever plays on shadows and camera angles that highlight the classic Hitchcock silhouette. A humble genius who truly loved his art and his wife. ROB
