Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel
Starring: Naomi Watts, Naveen Andrews

Princess Diana has died a second death with the release of this autobiographical drama entitled Diana, which is based on Kate Snell's 2001 book Diana: Her Last Love. Focusing on the last 2 years of Princess Diana's (Naomi Watts) life, the film explores her relationships with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (Navee Andrews) and Dodi Fayed (Cus Anvar).

When Princess Diana passed away so tragically in 1997 the whole world mourned. A feeling of such sadness was widespread and had never been experienced with such force. Diana was the People's Princess and regardless of her imperfections as a human being, was adored by the public. Sixteen years on the topic of Diana's death still hits a nerve with many and itís incredulous to think that a movie has been made highlighting the romances she had in the last two years of her life, covering dirt and all.

The major problem with this movie is that it lacks substance, merely concentrating on Diana's love affairs, with little time devoted to her achievements and just a 10 second scene involving her children. She is portrayed as a lonely, desperate for love damsel-in-distress and schemer who cared for nothing more than the man of her dreams - heart surgeon Hasnat Khan. Most of the dialogue is tacky, inadvertently resulting in laughter and resembling that of a cheesy daytime soap opera.

Clever hair, makeup and costumes did not transform Naomi Watts into Princess Diana. There was no resemblance whatsoever except from a distance and Diana's mannerisms and facial expressions filtered through occasionally -- Princess Diana was an inspiration. This mediocre film did nothing more than tarnish her memory and the story should have been left alone. A perfect example of a film that should never have been made.
