Let loose the Kraken!. One of my favorite movies growing up in the 80's. It really captured my imagination with it's fantastic storyline backed up by some pretty amazing special effects for it's time by the legendary stop animation genius, Ray Harryhausen.
Based on Greek mythology, Perseus (Harry Hamlin) the son of Zeus (Laurence Olivier) embarks on an epic quest to rescue Andromeda (Judi Bowker) from the Kraken, Poseidon's pet sea lizard. He is helped along the way by the Gods with magical weapons and Pegasus, the flying horse.
I suppose it does seem pretty dated compared to today's remake, but there is something magical about this movie that can't be replaced by modern day CGI. I'm probably just being a little sentimental and remembering back to when I was young, discovering for the first time the romance and inspiration behind the Greek mythological Heroes. As a 12 year old I distinctly remember falling in love with Andromeda. I must say it's still a joy to watch after all these years... ROBDIDO
