Marvel started it all with the Avengers thing and now DC Comics has finally come to the table with the Justice League. It all starts here with the aptly named Dawn of Justice, although this movie mainly concerns itself with the introduction of Superman and Batman. There are hints of the other league members throughout the film.
The two most famous heroes of all, Superman and Batman finally meet but don't see eye to eye, thanks to the manipulating ways of an introspective Lex Luthor with daddy issues. This very dark spin on the superman story revolves around humanity taking a deeper look at what an alien being from Krypton means to the world and how dangerous he could be with god like powers.
This "keep it real" approach to the story that we have seen in Gotham works well, but when it crosses over into Metropolis I felt they should have lightened it up a bit.
I am not one to shy away from a deeper plot, but for the first time around all I got was a bombardment of smashed concrete and never ending hard hits. Maybe I will appreciate it more 2nd time around but like the "Man of Steel" they went overkill on the special effects. Is it me or have we become DE-sensitized to the wonder of SFX these days.
But I digress and whole-heartedly welcome the new era of Super Friends. Lets hope Wonder Twins and Gleek the Space Monkey are in the sequel... Probably not. ROB
