Why bother educating young girls, if they are just going to throw it all away and marry the first boy that shows any interest in them. Probably what was going through a lot of father's heads back in the day. Thankgod times have changed (or have they), and an educated wife is not just something hubby can show off to his mates.
Sixteen year old school girl Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is well on track for Oxford University. Somthing her father (Alfred Molina) has worked hard at his whole life to achieve for her. Along comes David (Peter Sarsgaard), a borderline pedophile, to tempt her away.
This is a great film and a great education in itself, that all parents and their teenage kids should watch together. It could have gone either way here for smug young Jenny, and the lesson to learn is, there are no shortcuts when it comes to having a rich and fulfilling life... Unless your young, pretty and have a decent enough lawyer then fuck it - go for it - you can always just surround yourself with intelligent friends... ROBDIDO
