Director: Clint Eastwood
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller
I've heard a lot of people whinge that this is just one big propaganda movie for the US Army to recruit more people. Well Amen to that. We need more hero's like Kyle going over to Arabia to stop the evil shit going on there. As far as movies go it's not the best war film I have ever seen, but it did bring my attention to the true story of Chris Kyle.
Based on the recent autobiography of Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle, the movie takes us on his journey from Texan cowboy to the most decorated Sniper in military history with over 160 confirmed kills. It also explores the human side of returned service men and the mental issues they go through when adjusting to the civilized world. After 4 tours of duty Chris finally finds his place back home only for it all to end tragically in the worst of ironies.
Clint Eastwood direction with this was OK, but it lacked the intensity a movie like this deserved. Not sure if it was the editing or the general pace of the film, but even the key sniper scenes didn't get me on the edge of my seat... Maybe just a little.
Overall it's an interesting story and I was shocked at the end to discover what happened in real life to our hero. The movie is nominated for a lot of awards this year which was a bit surprising, but at least it's a good reminder for the world the difference between good and evil and that there are individuals out there with enough courage watching over us.
