I guess for 1902 you can't ask too much. Still in the pioneering stages of cinema, this early film is more fantasy than science fiction. How they go to the moon and the living conditions on it, one would think maybe comedy was director Georges Meilies' intentions.

A group of astronomers who look like wizards travel to the moon by being shot in a capsule from a cannon. They have a bit of a nap and some girls turn up and sprinkle angle dust on them. They then find some huge magic mushrooms & are captured by moon men with spears. As per usual these white men decide to kill these dark looking savages. Sound familiar. After they escape, they jump back in the capsule and fall back down to earth, carefully avoiding burn up on re-entry.

With all that angel dust and mushrooms, Im beginning to think maybe this is one of the first drug culture movies. For a fascinating insight into this film watch the film HUGO by Martin Scorsese... ROBDIDO
