The original was heaps better but then again I might be a little biased being 13 at the time. Karate, school girl crushes & revenge against pink sweater wearing yuppies was how I rolled back then. This remake might look different but in essence it has pretty much all the same corny teenage values as the original. Although disturbingly the kids are heaps younger now. What they should of done was bring back Ralph Machio, he still looks like a teenager. It's funny, Machio was 24 when he played a 16yr old, and Will Smith's kid is like 12yrs old playing an older kid.

Dr Dre (Jaden Smith) moves to Beijing with his mother. He get's the hots, for a girl called Meiying (Wenwen Han) but some local kid doesn't like him moving in on his bitch. To stop the bullying, a janitor (Jackie Chan) begins training him in Kung Fu & the way of the Cobra. Did I mention they are all just 12 years old in this film!

The film has a similar plot but with better fighting, probably due to Jackie Chan's influence and this time around they are doing Kung Fu, instead of karate, so really it should have been called the Kung Fu Kid... kind of rolls off the tongue that does... They also pay tribute to all the classic scenes. Jayden Smith might not be waxing on & whacking off or doing the Crane, but a different training program is used with similar results. I found the chemistry between Master & Padawan a bit off ch'i but he's young still & the acting isn't what it's about. Yes it's a corny movie, but it's meant to be & the kids love that shit...
